Chiropractic Medicine is a specialty of medicine defined as attending to what are known as "fixations" within the spinal joints that can cause pain, nerve impingement, headaches and even can lead to injury if not assessed and managed properly. Chiropractic is not just a discipline that focusses solely on the spine but on the entire body and function of joint movement and pain management. Chiropractors do not use pharmaceutical medicine to mask over the symptoms of pain but attempt to get to the root cause of the issue and plan a treatment regimen that is best suited for that particular issue. Often during the Chiropractic visit, a practitioner of Chiropractic may prescribe exercises, manipulation of the affected joint or joints, manual therapy and supplementation to achieve a better status of overall health and wellness in the treatment of pain.

Acupuncture is classified under the discipline of medicine in China known as traditional Chinese Medicine or TCU for short. It is a 5000 year old technique that helps those manage symptoms that range from pain all the way to helping manage internal issues such as digestion, allergies, fever and more. Acupuncture is a minimally invasive procedure where the practitioner uses very small needles in specific points along the body's "meridians" which are energy flowing pathways better understood as the peripheral nervous system. Once the needles are in place the patient normally will sit or lay down while they are in place for roughly 20 minutes to 30 minutes. The procedure is accompanied by a sensation of pressure or coolness known as "Da Qi" or the arrival of energy. This is a non-painful sensation and is a good sign that the therapy is working. Depending on the amount of sessions of acupuncture that has been recommended by the physician a person can expect results normally within the first 3-6 sessions.

Functional Medicine is a branch of medicine that focussed on prevention, early detection and treatment of chronic conditions that often are difficult to treat with standard Western Medicine. These conditions range broadly from metabolic conditions such as Diabetes, to Hypothyroidism and adrenal gland deficiencies all the way to Cancer, Heart Disease and Cognitive decline. Integrations of Functional Medicine in tandem with primary Western Medicine can yield a powerful affect in a patient's life and can fill in the holes that Western Medicine has a difficult time filling. If you are struggling with a diagnosis and either you want to find out how to find the root cause of the issue or to prevent the negative down stream effects of being on long term medications then this is a great option for you.
